CANADIAN RED CROSS WILDERNESS FIRST AID COURSE PLUS ADDITIONAL SURVIVAL SKILLS

Monday, June 24th to Thursday – June 27th, 2024

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Participants will learn comprehensive first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills, as well as skills required to plan, prevent injury and promote safety for themselves and peers while in a wilderness or remote workplace or community 3 or more hours from organized health care. Instruction will focus on developing leadership skills, assessment, decision-making skills, and strategies for providing extended care for up to 24 hours. Prevention, health and wellness of the group is a key focus with massive amounts of scenarios to enhance skills and build confidence.

Most of the course is taught in an outdoor setting and requires greater physical activity and endurance than typical first aid training located at an Ecolodge including comfort stations and will require overnight camping in a cabin or privately owned tent.

AUDIENCE:

For individuals that work and/or spend significant time in a wilderness environment, or lead groups in a professional capacity.

REQUIREMENTS:

Must be 16 years of age and in good health and physical condition. You do not require any basic course prior to taking this course. You may upgrade to this advanced level from Remote First Aid.

COURSE LENGTH: 40 Hours

COURSE SCHEDULE:

Participants travelling from outside the area, have the choice of arriving the night before or arriving on the Monday morning of course starting.

ADDITIONAL BASIC SURVIVAL SKILLS:

As this is an overnight course, there is plenty of time to learn additional skills such as; fire starting, shelter building, water filtration, and food preparation. With over 30 years of experience in the military and as an outdoor enthusiast, your instructor will ensure the safety of participants at all times as well as leave you with a wealth of knowledge and skills to take home and on your next adventure.
